Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak at 5,895m, is often called the “Roof of Africa” and is located near Moshi, Tanzania. The Machame route, also known as the whiskey route, is a popular choice for climbers due to its challenging nature compared to other routes. It offers diverse scenery, including the Shira plateau, Lava tower, and Barranco wall, as it ascends and descends on the mountain’s western and northern sides. This route can be completed in a minimum of 6 days, with some opting for 7 days for better acclimatization. Stretching 62 km in total, it’s steeper, especially during the first day and a half, due to Kibo’s volcanic activity on the western side. Ideal for adventure enthusiasts seeking a more demanding yet rewarding experience.
After breakfast, your guide will pick you up and drive you to Machame Gate, approximately 1 hour from Moshi town.
Here, your guide will handle climbing permits and the authorities will weigh the porter’s luggage. While our chef prepares an early lunch, you can explore the starting point.
After clearing permits, checking porter weights, and having lunch, we’ll start the hike through Mount Kilimanjaro’s rainforest. Upon reaching Machame Camp, our mountain crew will set up the tents and you can enjoy a freshly prepared dinner before retiring to your tent in the evening.
After breakfast depart for Shira Camp, leaving the rain forest ascending to a steep rocky ridge towards Shira Plateau and its moorland. Upon arrival at Shira Camp you will enjoy your hot lunch and later in the afternoon you may opt to go for a short acclimatization hike with your guide before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast we continue our ascend passing by the Lava Tower. A challenging trek but important for a proper acclimatization, our team will set up for hot lunch at Lava tower altitude of 4,630 meter. After lunch we will descend to Barranco Camp. Our crew will pitch tents and prepare dinner before you retire to your tent for overnight.
After an early breakfast depart for Barafu Camp. The first half of today’s trek will be a challenging one summiting Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp, where you can rest a bit while enjoying your lunch. Followed by a less challenging trek to Barafu Camp. Upon arrival our team will setup base and prepare an early dinner. Make sure to get enough rest this day to prepare for the summit day.
An early start at around midnight to begin the slow march up to Stella Point (5,745 m) on the edge of the Kibo crater.
About an hour from here lays the ultimate goal, the great summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak – at 5,895 m, the highest point in Africa! Here, if we’re on time, we can watch the sun rise over the African continent, take photos and embrace the moment and feeling of being on the highest point of Africa.
The ascending hike is 5 km and will approximately take 6-8 hours. After a rest at the top, we continue back down to Barafu where we take breakfast and relax for an hour, before continuing our march down the mountain.
Today’s walk takes us back down through the alpine desert, heather and moorland zones further down to rain forest zone at Mweka Camp. Lunch, dinner and overnight.
Enjoy our last evening on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.
After breakfast depart for Mweka gate. The trek will be a short trek of 10 km downhill, which will take approximately 3 – 4 hours.
Upon arrival at the park headquarters at Mweka Gate we will collect our summit certificates, celebrate and our team will be ready to transfer you to hour hotel in Moshi.

Yasin is an excellent driver and a very experienced guide, who dicovers even the ear of a lion hiding in the grass in a distance of 50 meters. So we have been lucky to see a lot of animals. Therefore our Safari was an awesome experience. We also received lots of information about the animals, the National Parks, the country of Tansania and the people living there. Since he is very humorous guy, we had a lot of fun, too. Thanks Yasin for a very special and fantastic time.
Can’t recommend Yasin highly enough. Endlessly informative with an almost sixth sense of where the animals are likely to be. Also a funny and ever positive travelling companion who contributed much to a family holiday of a lifetime.
We had a three-day safari with Yasin. Yasin gave us a very warm welcome right from the start and made us feel very familiar and friendly. It didn’t feel like a tour with a guide. We felt that we were in good hands and were able to enjoy the safari. We particularly liked the fact that Yasin always involved us in everything. For example, we were able to decide when our day began or ended. Yasin was able to tell us a lot about the wildlife, but also about the culture and the country. He was in constant contact with his colleagues, which gave us a good opportunity to see the BIG5. The moment of our engagement was very special for us. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again, dear Yasin. Thank you for your support and the great picnic spot. You were so well prepared, always took care of everything and made our dream come true. We will never forget these moments and we will never forget you. Stay healthy and as cheerful as we got to know you. Kind regards from Bremen (Germany) Jessica & Brian
Vielen vielen Dank
My family and I were so lucky that we had Hussein as our guide! He were really passionate about his work, which resulted in us learning so much about the nature we went to, seeing a lot of different animals meanwhile having a truly comfy trip where you felt safe all the timeâ˜ºï¸ I will truly recommend Hussein as a guide for your wildlife adventure ðŸ€
We spend ten days with Yasin in the Serengeti, Taranguire and Ngorongoro Crater. Yasin, our guide, was always optimally prepared and also discovered the animals that were well hidden. He kept the necessary distance and always showed consideration for the animals. We felt safe and in good hands. Thanks to Yasin we experienced a unique Safaritour that we will never forget.
